plasma care®

Cold plasma therapy

The plasma care® is a mobile medical device for treating wounds and inflammatory skin diseases with cold atmospheric plasma (CAP). Thanks to its mobile and battery-operated design, plasma care® is ideal for use in doctor's surgeries, clinics or for outpatient care by wound experts.

Wound treatment

Cold plasma therapy for all wounds

The plasma care® uses cold plasma to inactivate bacteria, including multi-resistant pathogens, viruses, fungi and spores, in wounds. At the same time, it supports wound healing effectively, quickly and without allergies or side effects. Cold plasma therapy works regardless of the cause of the wound and sets the body's own processes in motion to promote healing and accelerate wound closure. The advantages are effective bacteria reduction, the killing of multi-resistant germs, the activation of wound healing and the ability to delegate treatment. Experienced wound treatment specialists can assess whether the wound is responding to this form of therapy after just 2–3 treatments.

Dermatology

Treatment of various skin diseases

The plasma derma care® uses cold plasma to treat various inflammatory skin diseases by inactivating bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores. It has a calming effect on itching and inflammation in conditions such as neurodermatitis or fungal infections, and it has no allergies or side effects unlike purely medicinal approaches. Due to its mechanism of action, cold plasma therapy is suitable for a wide range of dermatological conditions, including mycoses, actinic keratosis, acne, perioral dermatitis, neurodermatitis, soft tissue infections and viral diseases such as herpes.

Frequently asked questions

What is cold atmospheric plasma (CAP)?
+
-

Cold atmospheric plasma is a partially ionised gas, known as the fourth state of matter, which is created by adding energy to a gas. Natural plasma, such as that found in lightning or the Northern Lights, is too hot for use on human skin. The technical development of cold atmospheric plasma, at room temperature and under atmospheric pressure, has made its use possible. When producing cold plasma, just enough energy is supplied to achieve partial ionisation, whereby the temperature is kept below 40°C. This process creates a "plasma cocktail" consisting of various components which is toxic to bacteria but stimulates cell division in healthy human cells. Cold plasma for medical purposes is specifically designed to increase the proportion of reactive species that make up the medically effective part of the plasma cocktail, while minimising the proportion of visible light, UV and thermal radiation.

How long does the therapy take?
+
-

The duration of the therapy varies depending on the type, severity and history of the wound. An experienced wound care specialist can determine whether the wound is responding to the treatment after just 2–3 applications. This is demonstrated, among other things, by improved blood circulation, reduced odour, reduced wound secretion, decreased wound area and less pain when changing dressings. For heavily stressed wounds such as amputation stumps, regular follow-up treatment may be necessary.

How long does a single treatment take?
+
-

The treatment time for one wound area is at least one minute and can be up to three minutes per area for heavily contaminated wounds. The duration of the treatment also varies depending on the size of the wound. A maximum area of 70–78 cm² can be treated with a spacer, which means that the plasma care device must be applied six times for one minute each time, resulting in a total treatment time of 6 minutes.

Can cold plasma also be used postoperatively?
+
-

In general, the risk of postoperative wound healing problems increases with the size of the surgical wound and the duration of the procedure. Postoperative wounds respond particularly well to treatment with cold plasma, which leads to healthier wound healing. Significantly faster healing has been observed, particularly in problematic areas that are exposed to heavy loads and contamination.

Why is the spacer a disposable product?
+
-

The device has been designed for both inpatient and outpatient wound treatment. It is therefore crucial that the spacer is secure and sterile at all times, regardless of who is using it, which patient is being treated or which ward is involved. It is essential to prevent any transmission of bacteria or germs from one patient to another. This can only be 100% guaranteed by using a disposable product.

Convenient & mobile

The plasma care® product line is specially designed for mobile use by doctors and nurses. The devices are functional, user-friendly and aesthetically designed. A spacer ensures hygienic use. The technical features include touch button operation, a plasma source, a sterile disposable spacer for each treatment, a docking station for cordless charging, a mains adapter and a training spacer. All housing parts are made of medical plastics, are biocompatible and easy to clean.
